On June 22, 2017, Clyde Miller, 65 years old, from Thousand Oaks, was reported missing to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.  Mr. Miller had not been seen since June 17, 2017.  Investigation led detectives to the trailhead for the Pentachaeta trailhead in the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy located near Triunfo Canyon Road in Westlake Village. Deputies located a vehicle belonging to Mr. Miller near the trailhead. Multiple search and rescue resources immediately began a search of the backcountry in the surrounding areas.

Today, the cooperative search with multiple agencies continued. This search included the use of trained search and rescue volunteers, helicopters, mounted horse units, and unmanned aerial vehicles. Sheriff’s investigators also utilized social media to solicit help from the public in locating Mr. Miller.

Late this afternoon a private citizen provided information that led search teams to focus on a particular area of the search area.  At about 5:30 PM, a Sheriff’s helicopter crew located a male adult in a ravine in the focused search area, which was just inside Los Angeles County. Paramedics were hoisted down into the ravine where unfortunately, the subject was determined to be deceased. Currently, there is no indication of foul play. The investigation is continuing and positive identification is pending from the Los Angeles County Coroner.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the efforts of the public and all of the rescue personnel in providing information and assistance with the search efforts.
